Breaking The Chains
Maribel once believed her story was already written.
As a child in Guatemala, she endured physical and emotional abuse within her own family. She felt trapped, unseen, and certain there was no future ahead.
Everything changed when she entered the Graduate Program. There, she wasn’t treated as a problem to fix, but as a young woman with potential. She received education, counseling, Bible-centered study, and friendships that felt like family. Caring adults looked her in the eye and told her she was capable—and they meant it. Over time, Maribel began to believe it too.
Now 25, she stands strong. Three years ago, she began studying nursing. The journey was demanding: long internship hours, extended work shifts, and seasons without a single day off. Exhausted but determined, she persevered.
This year, Maribel completed her nursing degree—proof that resilience can rise from trauma and that dreams can survive even the hardest beginnings. She is now pursuing her undergraduate degree and preparing to live independently.
Brenda Rivera, Director of Guatemala, shared, “This is why I do what I do—to see lives changed, to see hope come alive.” At graduation, Maribel told her, “This is me—breaking the chains.”
