Astha Lama, Program Director

“To us, walking the long road with the children we serve means choosing commitment over convenience and believing in a child even before they can believe in themselves. We see them grow from shy to confident, from hesitant to curious. They start believing in their own abilities, taking ownership in their learning. We not only see them transform academically but also emotionally strong and confident , strong enough to speak for themselves.”

Godawari Education Center (GEC)

The Godawari Education Center (GEC) offers a safe and nurturing space for children and families in the Godawari community. Each weekday afternoon, children are supported by trusted local teachers and counselors through tutoring, mentoring, and nutritious meals. By strengthening families and surrounding children with care, the Center helps reduce the risks of exploitation while creating space for children to learn, grow, and thrive in their community. The GEC is run by the National Mission Commission of Nepal.

770,000

Children and teens are not enrolled in school.

Many families cannot afford school-related costs or rely on their children to help earn income or do household work. For low-income households, education can feel less urgent than meeting daily needs.

10 Million

Children live in Poverty

The overwhelming majority of these children lack access to healthcare, nutrition, education, and housing. And the poverty rates are 2.5 times higher in households where the head of household has little or no education.

1 in 3

Nepali children face significant issues due to malnutrition.

The lack of nutrition impacts more than the physical growth of the child; without proper nutrition, children are at risk of poor academic performance, social and emotional challenges, and weakened immunity.

Only 12%

Of all children living in poverty are on track for reading and mathematics.

Less than half of all students in grades 3, 5, and 8 meet Nepal academic standards.

Our Transformational Approach

In Nepal, our local staff walks alongside children and their families as they focus on education, physical wellbeing, social-emotional growth, and spiritual support. Our team meets children where they are—in their communities, honoring their stories, and building hope for their futures.

EDUCATION

Learning goes beyond the classroom. Our local educators and mentors walk alongside children-building knowledge, life skills, and hope in the places they call home.

PHYSICAL WELLBEING

Meeting essential physical needs removes barriers to learning, and allows children to focus, grow, and succeed in school and life.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL GROWTH

Through supportive relationships, education, and professional support, children experience safety, find healing, and build resilience.

SPIRITUAL SUPPORT

Grounded in compassion, children are invited to know and experience the unconditional love of God.
