Uma Shankardas, Liaison

“The sense of pure joy and fulfilment of knowing we play a direct part in Christ's purpose for these children, and to see that happen over time is the best reward. When an independent young man and woman still lovingly calls me Uncle Uma and the program their home, it is the best feeling in the world.”

Gan Sabra

Gan Sabra

Gan Sabra is a children’s home and community program in Aizawl, providing safety, stability, and compassionate care for children living with HIV. In a loving family environment, children receive consistent medical treatment, nutrition, education, and spiritual support as they heal from loss, trauma, and neglect. Beyond the home, Gan Sabra supports vulnerable families in the community—offering medical, educational and nutritional support, education on HIV care, and life-skills training. Together, this work restores dignity, builds hope, and creates space for children and families to grow strong and thrive.

House of Grace (Dar-Ul-Fazl)

House of Grace (Dar-Ul-Fazl)

House of Grace (Dar-Ul-Fazl) provides care and stability for children and young adults who are orphaned or vulnerable due to abuse, neglect, or extreme poverty. Through consistent loving support, children experience the security needed to rebuild trust and develop life skills for adulthood. Located on the same property in Manali, Rainbow School serves both House of Grace residents and children from the surrounding community, offering quality education from preschool through eighth grade and creating a shared environment where children can learn, belong, and thrive.

31 Million

Children Lack the Care of at least One Parent

More than 60,000 children live in residential care. While adoption is an option for some, many older children or children with special needs remain in orphanages.

56%

Lack Reading Comprehension

By fifth grade, a child should comfortably read a short story written for a second grader—but most rural students in India are still learning that skill. When reading comprehension is delayed early on, it can make every other subject—science, history, even math—much harder to learn.

2.54 Million

People impacted by HIV

Children living with HIV are at high risk of educational disadvantage due to social stigma and access to quality care.

206 Million

Indian Children Live in Severe Poverty

These children lack access to education, nutrition, safe housing, clean water, or sanitation. The chronic deprivation puts these children at high risk for emotional and cognitive delays.

Our Transformational Approach

In India, we partner with two local programs that walk alongside children, young adults, and families, focusing on education, physical wellbeing, social-emotional growth, and spiritual support. Our team meets children and families where they are—in their communities, honoring their stories, and building hope for their futures.

EDUCATION

Learning goes beyond the classroom. Our local educators and mentors walk alongside children-building knowledge, life skills, and hope in the places they call home.

PHYSICAL WELLBEING

Meeting essential physical needs removes barriers to learning, and allows children to focus, grow, and succeed in school and life.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL GROWTH

Through supportive relationships, education, and professional support, children experience safety, find healing, and build resilience.

SPIRITUAL SUPPORT

Grounded in compassion, children are invited to know and experience the unconditional love of God.
